ADAM

Eden is boring.
Nothing explodes.
There are no trains to run off the tracks.
And Adam finds himself
Minus the desideratum of a target.
What is he questing for?
Comic books? Broadband? Balsamic vinegar?
He's aware of an itch,
Somewhere,
And scratching
Has yet to be invented.
Something is missing.
Consumer needs
Quest for their marketplace.
There is, as yet, no agora,
But what is he here for?
Razor blades? Plasma TV? Pachinko?
He eyes the fruit,
The One Forbidden Thing,
Wondering if this
Is the answer.
"Not yet," says the serpent,
Who's seen the script.
But Adam is engineered for impatience:
Quests, missions, objectives,
Grails unholy or otherwise.
"Out!" says the angel.
And Adam shrugs,
Loses the core,
Strides to the open gate,
And exits.
As he tastes, for the first time ever,
Dust in his nostrils,
Something on two legs
Is running after him.
