Troy - poetry about Troy

By Hugh Cook, British-born writer educated in New Zealand and resident in Japan. Guide to his Iliad-related poetry. Hugh Cook's Iliad-related poetry.

Hugh Cook says:-

Way back when, I started writing an epic poem with the working title TROY. The first part of this to appear in print was published in 1987 with the title "Troy". It appeared in the 1987 edition of Musings, the Massey University literary magazine. (Edited by Ewen Coker, ISSN 0112-9449.)

The poem, as published in Musings, dealt with the first meeting of Helen of Troy and Paris. A somewhat longer version of the poem was published online in 2000 as Helen of Troy. (Some adult content - NOkids, thanks!)

Some notes on the writing of "Troy" appear in the diary entry Trojan War. This entry includes some Trojan War poetry.

Some offcuts from the "Troy" project have been published as The Death of Patroclus and The Death of Nestor.

There is also a related poem about battle injuries called Wounded, Not Yet Dead.
